Celebrating the Dignity of Every Human Life, from Conception to Natural Death Meetings at Sacred Heart Pastoral Center 2nd Monday of the Month 8:45am 277 Union Ave Laconia NH
Promoting a Culture of Life
Mission
We celebrate the dignity of every human life, from conception to natural death, and raise awareness of threats against this dignity. We encourage and are actively involved in protecting and defending all human life - in every form and stage- primarily through Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy.
Who We Serve
We serve the preborn, families, elderly, poor, underprivileged, infirm, spiritually wounded, and the defenseless. Our mission reaches out to those in our parish, as well as those in our extended community. We work in close conjunction with other parish ministries and local organizations.
Who We Are
We are a pro-life ministry, united in mission, and comprised of Catholic individuals. We are called to uphold and promote the Sanctity of Life and the recognition of each individual’s personhood. We strive to do this within our families, our parish, our local community, our state, and our country.
Our yearly local Walk for Life in August promotes a culture of life through public witness and awareness. Carrying a large prolife banner, we walk from Opechee Park to Wyatt Park and back as we visibly demonstrate support for the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.
Each January, NH Right to Life sponsors a rally and march to remember the millions of lives lost through abortion. The day includes a brief memorial service at the Concord City Landfill, Mass at Christ the King Church, an inspiring rally outside the State Capitol building, and a peaceful March for Life down Main Street past the Equality Health Center abortion facility. A complimentary light lunch is provided back at the church hall with a featured guest speaker.
The National March for Life, held annually in D.C. in January, is an inspiring, peaceful and joyful rally and march. It is the largest human rights demonstration in the world and is attended by tens of thousands of prolife advocates. Members of our parish, including our youth, participate in this event, marching from the National Mall to the Supreme Court to voice their opposition to abortion.
40 Days for Life is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign held twice each year. Its purpose is to end abortion locally through prayer, fasting, and community outreach. All-day prayer vigils are held on the public sidewalks in front of abortion facilities. Our Ministry offers an hour of prayer weekly during the spring and fall campaigns at both the Concord and Manchester abortion locations.
Our Ministry supports Aspire Women Center’s Baby Bottle Fundraiser which is held from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. We hand out baby bottles to individuals after Mass to take home and to fill with change, cash or checks. All contributions returned are given to Aspire. This pregnancy care center has supported families in our community for over 40 years, helping those when they need it most.
In July we participate in National Prolife Bridges Day which is held across the country. We use specially designed banners to display the prolife message “Abortion Takes a Human Life” on selected highway overpasses. We cover the Exit 20 overpass in Tilton reaching thousands of motorists over a four-hour period and hoping to touch some hearts and minds.
In October, the Catholic Church celebrates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday is designated as Respect Life Sunday. Since 1987 thousands of believers have gathered across the USA and Canada on that day to participate in Annual Life Chains. Locally we meet in the parking lot at Laconia City Hall, walk to Union Avenue where we prayerfully gather along the sidewalk holding uplifting pro-life signs. It is a visual display of support for the sanctity of life in the Lakes Region.
A “spiritual baby” can be adopted by a family, or each family member can have his or her own baby and mother for whom to pray a short daily prayer. Participants pick up a spiritual adoption card for a baby boy or girl and can name their baby. While you will not know your “spiritually adopted baby,” God knows the child in need of prayers. The program lasts for nine months as we follow the baby’s growth and development. We end with a beautiful baby shower with all items donated to Aspire Women’s Center, our local pregnancy care center,
In September, pro-life Americans gather in cemeteries across the U.S. at special gravesites to honor the bodies of aborted babies or at memorials to the preborn. Solemn prayer vigils are conducted at these sites. Sacred Heart Cemetery has such a memorial, which was placed there by the Knights of Columbus in 1997. It is located behind the large statue of the crucifixion at the top of the small hill. A short prayer service is held there to honor the memory of these babies.
America Needs Fatima sponsors thousands of rosary rallies across the country in October during the National Rosary for Life. Ours is held in Opechee Park by the track. Praying the rosary in public for our country and for the world is a powerful way to be a witness to our faith and to the Fatima message.
This beautiful service of prayer and music honors Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose Feast Day is celebrated annually on December 12. Our service is held following the 10:30 A.M. Mass on a Sunday near to the feast day. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of the preborn. She appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531 at Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City as pregnant with the Christ Child. This symbolized her maternal care for all children, especially those at risk of abortion. She is a reminder of the sacredness and dignity of all human life.

When our State Legislature passes bills, they become law in New Hampshire. That is why it is critical to monitor pending legislation prior to passage and to speak out when proposed bills do not support the sanctity of life or do not comply with Catholic teachings.
